Google Street View Goes Miniatur To Capture Hamburg Model Train Exhibit

Miniatur Wunderland is a massive model railroad exhibit in Hamburg Germany spread out over 1,300 square meters (nearly 14,000 square feet). It’s reportedly Hamburg’s most popular tourist attraction.

Started in 2000 it features eight sections that depict various scenes and countries throughout Europe and the US, including a mini Las Vegas and Grand Canyon.

Google has documented the attraction with tiny Street View cars as though it were a real place. You can now see Street View imagery on Google Maps of its various “landmarks” and sections.

Tiny 360-degree cameras were actually attached to tiny cars and trains to capture the imagery of the exhibit as those these were real places. You can tell you’re not actually looking at a lake in the Swiss Alps or a traditional town center in Germany but the level of detail and the POV imagery are impressive.

Google Street view launched in 2007 with four cities. Nine years later Street View has essentially covered the globe with imagery from every continent, including Antarctica.
