William Shakespeare Google Doodle celebrates iconic writer & England’s St. George Day

Google is giving William Shakespeare prime placement on its homepage today as the world celebrates the iconic writer’s birthday.

According to the Google Doodle blog, today’s William Shakespeare doodle also marks St. George Day, a British holiday to celebrate the patron saint of England. Known as the dragon slayer, St. George can be spotted in the upper left corner of the doodle facing off the dragon in the top right corner.

A creative tour de force, Shakespeare officially wrote 38 plays in his 52 years, some of which you can spot in today’s Doodle.

Google’s Shakespeare doodle includes a collection of illustrations depicting famous scenes from a few of of the Shakespeare’s plays, including Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. The logo leads to a search for “William Shakespeare” and includes the usual sharing icon so that literature buffs can post it to their social pages.
